What is the Travellers’ Choice Awards?

You’ve probably noticed that Tripadvisor is taking a fresh look at all aspects of its brand this year (hello, new logo and colour palette!). Now, we’re extending that effort to our awards programmes. 

In 2019, we conducted research to better understand consumer perceptions of the Travellers’ Choice and Certificate of Excellence awards around the world. The good news: Travellers told us that these recognition programs are tremendously influential in consumer decision-making. But the research also made it clear that we had an opportunity to drive even more clarity around what each award represents and how winners are determined. 

We took these insights to heart, and now we’re turning them into action by updating our awards program structure. All awards will now fall under the Travellers’ Choice umbrella: Properties that would have been recognized with the Certificate of Excellence will now be celebrated as Travellers’ Choice winners.


What benefits do Travellers’ Choice winning properties receive?

As an award winner, you’ll get:

  • A Travellers’ Choice badge on your winning listing(s) 

  • A promotional kit to help you publicise your achievement

  • A Travellers’ Choice widget to display your award on your own website

  • Access to a Travellers’ Choice merchandise store where you can purchase special items


How can I win an award?

TripAdvisor Rentals uses special criteria for determining who wins. The Travellers’ Choice award is awarded to rentals that:

  • Have great reviews

  • Have responsive owners

  • Provide a positive traveller experience


What is the 2020 Travellers’ Choice awards assessment criteria?

The 2020 Travellers’ Choice awards are based on your overall performance throughout the qualification period (the 2019 calendar year). To win the award, you will have had to meet the following criteria throughout 2019:

  • Response rate: needs to be 95% or higher

  • Acceptance rate: needs to be 90% or higher

  • Completed stays: you should have at least 3 completed stays (in your lifetime on the site, not just the last 12 months)

  • Bookings: during the qualification period you need to have had 3 or more bookings (this number is calculated across all listings on your account)

  • Cancellations by owner: 0 across all listings during the qualification period

  • Review score (during qualifying period): a total of at least 3 reviews with an average score of 4 or above



I’ve won, how to get my award?

Once you’ve received your winner announcement email, you’ll be receiving another email over the next few weeks, with the digital version of your award. Look out for this email to instantly download and print your Travelers' Choice award so you can display it.
