Why do I need to submit my taxpayer information?
As a US company, we are required to collect basic taxpayer information from owners and report annual rent disbursements to the IRS. You will receive a 1099 Misc form from us to enable you to report your US rental income. We will send you the relevant form completed based on the details you provide via the owner center.
How can I submit my taxpayer information?
Go to the Tax section on your owner center:
-
Select Tax essentials
-
Select Enter your tax details
-
Follow the instructions on the screen and answer the questions to complete the submission. Don’t worry, it only takes a few minutes.
If you’re unsure what information you need to provide, please contact a legal advisor or tax professional. We can’t offer advice or add your details on your behalf.
Please note: If you fail to provide the requested information by the specified deadline, we won’t be able to pay you.
Who will receive a 1099?
The 1099 form will be sent to you by January 31 for all payments disbursed with respect to US properties. Please consult your personal tax advisor on how to report this on your personal / business tax return.
Please note: The form will be sent to the person on the account who receives the payouts. E.g. if John is the person listed on the account, but it’s Jane’s bank account information saved in the Payout settings, the form will be sent to Jane. This information will be obtained from the completed W9 form you’ve submitted in your owner center.
Disbursements through Paypal: If you receive payments for bookings to a PayPal account, then you’ll need to get in touch with PayPal directly. TripAdvisor does not issue 1099 forms for PayPal users.
Can I make changes to the details I submitted via the owner center?
Yes. Simply go to the Tax section of your owner center to edit the information.
What if I am not a US citizen / don’t advertise US properties?
As a US company we are required to collect basic tax information to certify that you are not a US Citizen/US company and/or have withholding requirements. Please follow the instructions on the Tax section of your owner center - it will only take a couple of minutes.
